Ramadan the holy month for Muslims. Ramadan in Dubai is expected on 24 April (Friday) till 23 May.

During this month long period, cultural climate of city and the social things transforms. Working days shortens, the offices, shops change their operational hours and things generally slow down. This is the holy sacred month in which Muslims do fasting in order to purify their bodies.

What Is Suhoor, Siyam Iftar?

Suhoor is a premeal consumed by Muslims before fasting. Suhoor is also called Sehri, or Sahur in multiple languages.

Siyam is the fast ” Which means is to refrain”. Siyam is the hours of fasting. In Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking smoking between suhoor and iftar. Not only physical restraint, but they also refrain from bad thoughts, action and all types of bad words.

Iftar is also called as Fatoor. Iftar is the meal taken by Muslims to open their fasting after sunset in Ramadan.

What is Tarawih?

Tarawih is the extend prayers perform by Muslims after Isha Salah, during the month of Ramadan. It’s very important for everyone. The Laylat Al Qadr an important night falls during the last 10 days of the sacred month and on this night, the value of worship to Allah considered equivalent to 1000 months of worship.

Allah revealed the first verses of the Quran to the last Prophet Muhammad (PBUG) on the holy month of Ramadan. So that’s Muslim recite the whole Holy Quran on Tarawih.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. Charity is sufficient during Ramadan. Not only Governments and organizations do special initiatives but also individuals take steps to help share the Zakat to needy.

Greetings in Ramadan

Muslims do traditional greeting ins Ramadan Kareem or Ramadan Mubarak. They spread Ramadan card, send messages of greeting and do calls during holy month. Inviting the families, relatives and friends on special Iftar. Spread the greetings to get participated in local tradition.

Food and Drinks

As per UAE LAW, Drinking, eating food, chewing and smoking are prohibited in public areas. You can be fine up to Dhs 2,000 and punished up to a month in jail according to article 313 of the UAE Penal Code.

These rules applied to everyone’s believers and nonbelievers. Some restaurants stay closed till sunsets or Iftar. However, in the last few years, Dubai has done a little relaxation and allowed some areas to serve the food while they have to turn the windows black in the day time. So no one can look from outsides.

Working Hours Ramadan

Public Working hours and school days became shorter. According to the UAE Labour Law, companies must reduce normal working hours by two hours during the holy month. This Law strictly prohibits working longer than six-hour.
